About Us.
By: Kalleen Zanker

The Journalism/Media, and Web Design II classes are working together to cover school activities, clubs, and sports. Some of the different clubs and activities that are being covered are spring, winter, and fall athletics, senior news, class information, and other activities that occur during the school year. With the information that is obtained from interviews with different coaches and leaders of groups, the Journalism/Media class creates articles for the school web site (maintained) and designed by the Web II class.

Seniors take the Journalism/Media class as a substitute for their English class, or any student can take it as an English elective. As a class, we discuss topics that we think should be covered on the webeagles.com web page.

One topic that we discussed in a previous class was the school song. Usually schools have a song that represents the school and it seems that the students don't know what the Whitney Point song is any more. We now are trying to find out what the song is to solve our curiosity. You might see something like this on the web eagles web page as just an interesting news topic.

Other things that the class is working on is researching our own groups within the school that we have chosen to look into and write stories about. When the journalism and media class started out we would have never been able to write stories like this because you have to know all the ins and outs of journalistic writing because it has a different style and requirements than academic writing. Also, the class has to be careful about what they are writing and saying because school journalists have limits on the things they can say in a school environment and on a school web page.

The Web Design II classes are also working with the journalism and media class to help make the web pages look nice and presentable for others. The class is usually a small class so they all have very big tasks to create several different pages to make the finished web site.

The class takes the articles that the journalism class writes for them and applies it to the web site to go along with the pages they have created. These pages include pictures, banners, and other design elements. In order to get this very important information on the site, the students use programs such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop to create the pages that everyone gets to look at and learn more about the school activities.
