One Tough Season by Ashley Brant The Whitney Point Boys Basketball Team has some hard work ahead of them for next year. This last season's record was 3-17 and they will be losing half of their team this year do to graduation. Injuries were a common problem throughout the season, especially for starters. Charlie Blacknell, a projected starter, missed 16 of the 20 games due to a knee injury. Starter Phil Marschke, missed game and practice time due to a broken nose. Starter Max Raterman, missed 12 games due to knee surgery during the season, and Tyler Donnelly missed game and practice time due to a knee injury. Senior Eric Mingos was the only player to start every game. However, every player on the team started in at least one game. “What we did as a team was continued to pursue excellence. Everyday we got better, through hard work at practice and game experience,” said Coach Samsel, “Taking injuries and youth into account, it was a very productive year with many growing pains.” Plans for next season will be determined from summer workouts and the personal growth of players.
