                              Cultures Uncovered

The Multi-Cultural club has been busy this year taking part in holidays from around the world.
The club is headed by Ms. Heerschap this year along with president Tanner Sturdevant, vice president Ashley Brown and secretary/treasurer Guiseppa Aiello.
The club meets twice a month on Wednesday after school in Ms. Heerschaps room.
The purpose of the club is to “Celebrate various holidays and events that occur within our own culture and other cultures to give us a better understanding of why people celebrate them,” said Ms. Heerschap.
The club gives students the opportunity to explore cultures other than their own. “I joined the club,” said senior Jeremy McGuire, “because I was eager to learn about different cultures and to learn how they worked and to learn about their beliefs.”
For the month of November, the club celebrated the Day of the Dead, which is a Mexican tradition that honors the deceased. They decorated Ms. Heerschap's room with skulls and and made a coffin which they decorated it with paper flowers.
During the month of December they made different dishes/desserts from a variety of countries and they discussed where these came from and why they chose them. They also decorated Christmas ornaments.
February was all about celebrating Black History Month. The club decorated the bulletin board in front of the art room with both historical and contemporary African Americans who positively impacted our country.
Easter was celebrated during the month of March. The students got together to decorate Easter Eggs in celebration of the Easter holiday.
The club also plans to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in the month of May with other possible holidays in the future.
