Art Club

By: Angel Wormuth

The Art Club has been revamped this year after Mr. Rice took over for Mrs. Margrave. The 16 students took on a new project working with the Intermediate Art Club on coil pots to sell at the Art Show.

There are about 30 intermediate students in Art Club for half the year and another 30 for the other half. The high school Art Club joined the Intermediate Art club to do one large project.

Mr. Rice said, “They were fun to watch... they seemed to enjoy working with each other.”
The kids made huge clay pots that are on display throughout the school. The main office has one on display on the counter.

Although he mostly supervises Mr. Rice said, “I sometimes get my hands dirty.”

Art Club has a more relaxed setting then most clubs. They meet once a week to talk about the big projects they do. This year their focus is on their larger projects, although they all have the opportunity to do their own smaller projects. The kids can use what supplies that the school has to offer.

Art Club is a place to explore favored areas of art as well as less familiar types of art. Students are allowed to express themselves.

Sara Wagner said, “Everyone just does their own thing...”
The art club students are helping with the displays for the art show. They also went on a field trip to the Corning Glass Museum so they can expand what they know about different types of art.

Mr. Rice plans and Mr. Manvell to auction off the coil pots after the art show at the end of the year. The money raised will go for some much needed supplies.

Sarah Crosier a Senior in our school and also an Art Club member now has her painting “At The Cafe” hanging in Washington DC for a year. Sarah beat many other kids for this privilege. Sarah is an example of the things you can do when you put your mind to it, no matter where you come from or what school you go to.
