Track and Field

Running Circles Around Everyone

The outdoor track and field team starts the season fresh with three new assistant coaches. This years team is younger than previous years, making a new beginning for many.

Even the coaches are new which include Mr. Rounds, Mr. Soeffing and Mrs. Keibel. Ms. Hayes is the only returning coach and is head coach for the team.

The team has not been strong in the past, but individual athletes have progressed to the state qualifiers in previous years. One returning senior, Adrain Milisavjevich, has shown great potential to return to the state qualifier this year.

Recently,Whitney Point lost a meet to Chenango Forks but individualy Milisavjevich won all of the events he participated in, including the 800m, 1600m and 4X400m relay. “My goal this year is to break the school record for the 800m,” Milisavjevich said.

Track and field is a sport of many events, each challenging the athletes in a different way physically.. The athletes experience core, agility and endurance practices that push them harder each day. “ I joined track so that I can get fit,” Paige Monsen said.

Track and Field, like many sports, is as much mental as it is physical. Athletes need to prepare mentally and physically for each race or field event. Amy Tillotson said, “I don't think, I clear my mind when I shotput.
