Student Council Mayhem!
By: Sarah McDonald

The Whitney Point High School student body recently participated in one of the four Student Council “Spirit Weeks”. The events were a blast, consisting of a Nerd Day, NASCAR Day, Senior Citizen Day, and School Colors Day.

During this, the students dressed up according to the themed day and the class with the most “school spirit” earns points. The class with the highest amount of points receives a catered picnic at Dorchester Park during a day when everyone else is in normal classes.

However, in order for all of these activities to take place, the Student Council is the one to thank. From creating the themes for the Spirit Week, to cutting out shamrocks for the St. Patrick's Day Dance, the Student Council has been very hard at work.

The chase for the “spirit flag” has become very competitive and intense, but so far the seniors are still going strong!

Senior Matt Wade, the Student Council Vice-President stated that, “After last year's defeat against the 2007 seniors, there is no way any class is going to beat us this year. It just isn't possible. We've been bringing the heat and victory will be ours.”

Hopefully, the underclassmen will continue to intensify the competition, and perhaps give the seniors a run for their money.

Student Council is advised by Mr. Monaco and Ms. Thomas. Together they have created an opportunity for students to get involved in school activities and also interact with the community by holding a penny drive. The club focuses on service above self and determining what improvements can be made in and out of the school environment.

The Student Council meetings are held at least once every month. The dates are to be announced.
